BRIARGROVE
.......................................................
My name is Maria and I live with my partner on the outskirts of Consett in County Durham. Consett is a very picturesque town and I'm lucky enough to live in a bungalow which has glorious woodland as it's backdrop. The moorlands are visible from where we live too and there is an abundance of wildlife.
I have lived here for all of my life and ,at the age of 50+,class myself as part of the permanent fixtures of this area. I love the place and I love the people.
My partner and myself have been involved with Bullmastiffs for almost twenty one years now after our daughter purhased a lovely brindle bitch from the Blenvara Kennels
Sophie,as she was known at home, was the daughter of Blenvara Calphurnia, who was a true to type chunky light fawn bitch.
Sophie, however, was a stunningly marked brindle and though not show quality was loved by all as a superb natured pet
Now ,call it fate....call it coincidence - several years later our other daughter Claire purchased a beautiful red bitch puppy from Mrs. Michelle Scott of New Kyo,Stanley. Mrs Scott and her husband Eddy had lovingly reared a litter of 15 little beauties sired by Naukeen Woodwatch out of their wonderful bitch,Lady Appollo
This litter of little stunners appeared on our local TV news and were definately celebrities
I went along with my daughter to meet Michelle and Eddy Scott only to find that they also had another fabulous light fawn bitch by the name of Zena.It turned out that Zena was the sister of our Sophie. What a small world! And ,not just that....but Eddy had been the original owner of the line which later came to be known under the affix of Blenvara ! (Due to a change in circumstances,Eddy had sadly had to part with the breed he loved so dearly). But after meeting Michelle, they both chose to delve once more into the big ,bouncy world of the Bullmastiff.
It was then that I made my mind up .If ever Zena was to be lined again ,I definately wanted a puppy. After what seemed to be an eternity ,Zena, gave birth to a gorgeous guy called Oscar and we all loved him to bits. Sadly, when his "time came to leave us" I was absolutely distraught as was my partner and all of our friends and family. My partner said "No More!" and I resigned myself to a life without a dog. But despite his protests, Harvey ,a light fawn Bullie came into our lives closely followed by Zebedee (Zeb) a chunky mahogany red boy. They were with us for their alloted time but they too "had to leave"
Michelle and Eddy had in the mean time bought themselves two other puppies. Cassie (Dainty Duchess With Michianti) a superb red bitch with an exquisite temperament ...a dog who loved everyone and who was "showing" well until a ligament problem ended her career. However, she did take honours with Best of Breed in The Consett Canine Society Show, Best Puppy In Breed in Lanchester Show,Third Junior and Fourth Post Grad at Driffield Championship show.
Their other purchase was Lunar ,a huge top class Neopolitan Mastiff who has taken many ring honours.
After a while,we were introduced to Cassie . She was brought to stay with us whilst Michelle and Eddy went off on holiday. Cassie gave birth to five puppies on the 29th December 2003 . This was the result of the repeat mating of Cassie and the sensational CH. BROOKMEAD MARCUS OF GRAECIA who had attained best of breed at Crufts 2001. His sire was none other than CH. GRAECIA MERCURY (Crufts B.O.B 1996 & Top Stud 1997)
As most of the experienced Bullmastiff owners will know Graecia are the pride and joy of dedicated breeders,Mr.Alan & Mrs. Mave Rostron
THE TIME WAS RIGHT!!! WE NEEDED ANOTHER BULLIE!
I fell in love with Evie instantly and she has never disappointed us. She is apricot fawn in colour and stands a resplendent 26" at the shoulder. She's a very heavy bitch with plenty bone and excellent wrinkle when alert. She has a temperament that equals her parents and gets on fine with everyone.
I feel she is the ideal young lady to whom I can award the title of foundation bitch for Briargrove.
Her parentage, temperament and heritage are wonderful. In her make-up are her noble Champion Graecia sire and the Naukeen, Oldwell and Bonsoro lines which have been Michelle and Eddy's foundation for their Michianti lineage.( A lineage they still prize highly today) They looked long and hard for Cassie, desperate to bring back the "blood" they knew so well.
Despite having this gorgeous breed within my family for twenty plus years,it is only now that I feel comfortable enough in my knowledge to breed with a view to showing .
Evie shares a happy life at present with our Chow Chow and her many human friends
Our kennel is supported keenly by our daughter Claire and son-in-law Garry and our grandsons. Two of our girls reside with them and have the luxury of the seaside as their present home.
